ENGY Pad Printing Machine

1.The characteristics of ENGY’s pad printing machine.

As we all know, pad printing technology is an indirect gravure printing method that transfers images from printing plates (clichés) via a silicone pad onto a substrate (product surface to be printed). There are two common ways of using the plates and ink: The open inkwell system and the sealed ink cup (also known as closed ink cup.)

Our pad printer combines market-leading technology with built-in efficiencies to improve its speed and cost-saving.

Our pad printing system enjoys a good reputation in the market due to our experienced in-time after-sale service, favorable price, and one-stop solution.

We offer different types of pad printers, including one-color to multi-color, semi-automatic to fully automatic, standard, and customized ones; our production capability is flexible to meet customers’ needs.

In addition to the pad printers, we provide added value services like sampling services before delivery, operation training, and engineering consulting for clients to help them solve problems encountered during production.

That’s why the Engyprint pad printer has been distributed worldwide.

In conclusion, we are a trustworthy pad printer partner; there is no worry that you might encounter problems when cooperating with us, such as not finding our salesperson, receiving the machine without any accessories, or even having no answer from after-sale service.

2.Engyprint Closed Ink Cup Pad Printing Machines:

Engyprint offers pneumatic and rotary closed ink cup pad printing machines.

The hot sale pad printing machine is a two-color pad printer with a shuttle and a four-color printer with a conveyor.

To meet the client’s unique requirements, we can also build the pad printer with some different facilities; for example, a pad cleaning system is helpful to improve the printing quality and save cleaning work time; a hot wind system can dry the ink faster, fire flame treatment or electric ions can do the pre-treatment for PP or PET plastic material before printing, PLC control can improve the printing accuracy, automatic loading&unloading system can improve the printing efficiency. Etc.

Furthermore, ENGYPRINT has designed our closed ink cup system to find the most scientific structure; with our closed ink cup, customers can easily change the doctor blade ring and assemble it well again.

Using a closed ink cup for a pad printer can protect the working environment, save ink usage, and can be worked with different types of plates like aluminum plates, carbon steel plates, thick plates, water-based photopolymer plates, etc.

Engyprint Open Tray Pad Printing Machines:

Our open tray pad printing machine’s structure is different than that of a sealed ink cup pad printer; the container to hold ink is an open tray, which is why the ink inside of the tray is visible,

Open tray pad printer is best to assemble with a thick plate for printing; if anyone hopes to try a thin plate, it is necessary to build a magnet in the base plate on the pad printing machine to ensure the plate won’t move during the printing process.

The open tray pad printing machine uses a doctor’s blade to scrap the ink on the plate, which is different than the closed ink cup pad printer (use a ceramic ring or carbide ring ).

A doctor’s blade price is much lower than a ceramic ring.

Engyprint Open tray pad printing machine can print big logos, for example, 100*100mm, 130*130mm, 150*200mm logos, or even bigger sizes.

The hot sale open tray pad printing machine is one color pad printer with shuttle and two color pad printers with conveyor.

Our technical experts can walk you through the benefits and considerations of each approach and help you find the best solution for your unique application.

3.The materials and shapes that a pad printing machine can process

Decorate a Wide Range of Substrates

Pad printing machines provide highly durable print on a wide range of plastics, metal and wood, glass, ceramic, fabric, acrylic, etc. substrates.

This means a pad printing machine can print any material except water and air with a tailored fixture to keep the product stable during printing.

So, if you have a substrate ready for printing, providing the product size, logo size, and printing location is essential.

Printing material is more related to the ink choice.

Decorate a Wide Range of Shapes

Pad printing machines are particularly suitable for a range of even the most challenging parts of geometries printing. ENGY pad printing machine can decorate flat (linear), round, 2D, 3D, curved, recessed, and raised surfaces with the highest possible precision tolerances. I can also achieve multi-color printing to create colorful, vivid logo images.

To accomplish different shapes printing, the factory will customize a unique fixture for each product; sometimes, an automatic system can be considered.

With an automatic fixture, the printing capability can be highly improved; for minimal products like bottle caps, plastic sheets, and contact lenses, we can use particular loading systems like a vibrating plate, rising transportation facility, etc.

Many different types of materials are used to make fixtures: wood, plaster, acrylic, steel, etc.

And please pay attention; the fixture must be made according to the sample.

Fast & Easy Fixture and consumables Change With a disposable ink cup design, the ink cup can be changed in around 2 minutes without clean the ink in the cup.
Cost-Effective Than Many Other Alternatives Compared to hot stamping or heat transfer labels, pad printing is cheaper when flexibility is required. With pad printing, there is the flexibility to change graphics, ink , and ink color very quickly at a much lower cost.

With hot stamping, the cost of foil is high due to high minimum order quantity and the cost for producing foils in specific colors for specific substrates can be extremely expensive.

With heat transfer labels, there is a high cost associated with printing the label due to high minimum order quantity and the cost of applying the label.

Pad printing eliminates much of the cost incurred with labeling products. (cost of printing labels & cost of applying the label).

With UV printing, the UV ink is much more expensive than pad printing ink.

6.Things to note when adopting pad printing

Things to Considerate: Description:
Pre-treatment May Be Required For some special material, pre-treatment before printing may be necessary to make sure the ink won’t be easily erased after printing, for example: PP PE plastic material requires for flame treatment or ions treatment.
After Printing Treatment May Be Required Some of the ink formulations require heat to increase adhesion. UV light curing may be required if the product is packaged in bulk or assembled immediately after printing.
Automatic loading system maybe needed If the production speed has a high requirement, an automatic loading or unloading system can be chosen.
Print Size Limited by the Size of the Ink Cup The ink cup diameter and machine stroke defines the maximum size of the print image.

For example:

Inner diameter 90mm ink cup used on a 100*250mm plate, the max. Print logo is around 60*110mm.

The exception is that we can make the ink cup moving in the horizontal direction to enlarge the printing logo size.

Ink viscosity Needs to be Controlled Ink viscosity is particularly important to the printing quality. Defective prints could result when the ink is too thick or too thin, where the pad won’t pick up the image from the plate or release ink onto the part.
Solvents Required Solvents used in the pad printing process are hazardous chemicals that may be volatile or flammable and may possess health hazards. Thinner is required to adjust the ink viscosity. Solvents are required for cleaning all components.
Changing Artwork Means Changing Plates Artwork is etched or engraved onto a steel , aluminum plate or polymer plate.

To change artwork, a new plate needs to be etched with the new artwork.

If it is a two color printing, two etched plates will be needed, which means different color requires for individual plate.

Maintenance and Skilled Operation Required Maintenance personnel need to understand the pad printing process in order to address any print quality issues. Some factors they need to understand are:

² how environmental factors : temperature and humidity affect print quality and may need to adjust the ink viscosity accordingly.

² Ceramic ring and plate are better to use thinner to clean after printing in order to extend the consumables life time.

² Check the air pressure if the pad printer cannot work properly.

² Check the machine manual if the pad printer give error reminder.

7.ENGY’s FAQ

1. Q: What’s the difference between pad printing and screen printing?

A: The difference between these two technologies can be easily distinguished by their name,

Pad printing uses a silicon pad to transfer an image from the etched plate(Cliches) to a product, while screen printing uses a mesh screen to accomplish the image transfer.

Pad printing is excellent for printing smaller images onto 3d or curve-shaped objects, and screen printing is better for printing larger images or apparel on flat or round surfaces.

Typically, pad printing has a better image quality than silk screen printing.

2. Q: What’s the difference between pad printing and digital printing?

A: Pad printing is a direct printing technology where the ink is physically picked up and transferred to the products. When a printer prints multi-colors, the pad needs to pick different ink to print the colors individually.

Digital printing is an indirect printing technology where the ink is sprayed onto the product from a nozzle system. The multi-color appeared in the computer design.

Each may have its benefits, but pad printing still offers a higher-quality print and faster capability. It also allows for specialty applications where digital is very limited with types of inks that can be applied.

3. Q: How do I determine if pad printing is the best printing technology for my project?

A: Determining the best technology for your application requires considering many elements. The critical factor is what will be printed, the shape and material of the product, and what requirements might be involved—the size of the printed logo and where the logo is located. Please contact us for a detailed discussion.

4. Q: Can I use pad printing to produce photographic images?

A: Pad printing technology can print photographic images following a CMYK process. This process is much more challenging than standard spot printing and requires a higher level of expertise in all categories of manufacturing consumables and printer parameters. Generally speaking, it is a complicated process and requires many trials before printing.

5. Q: How fast is pad printing?

A: The speed of the pad printing is affected by many different elements:

◆ the difficulty of the print

◆ The experience of the operator: an experienced operator with a standard print can achieve up to 1,000 prints per hour.

◆ How many colors are needed

◆ What’s the structure of the pad printer? When printing multi-colors, a pad printer with a conveyor can print faster than a pad printer with a shuttle.

Furthermore, we can increase speed by customizing the printer with a care system or adding automation. For more information, please see our machine catalogs or contact us for a detailed discussion.

6. Q: How easy is pad printing?

A: The difficulty level depends on the image’s complexity and the design of the object being printed.

Engyprint will adjust the machine to be ready for printing before delivery and take the operation video to guide the users in making the operation process easier.

The core part of using the pad printer is adjusting the ink suitable for printing and finding the correct printing location by changing the fixture and the machine.

7. Q: How do I choose the right printer for printing my application?

A: We carry various pad printers to meet any printing requirements. We also offer customization for unique applications. Please view our machines or contact us to help determine your best choice.

8. Q: What’s the most prominent image I can pad print?

A: This depends on the product size and the printing location of the logo. For our standard 160-stroke machine – closed ink cup, with plate 100*250mm, the max print dimension is 60*110mm

An open tray pad printer has a considerable printing logo ability, for example, 100*100mm or even more significantly. Furthermore, we can customize the machines according to the client’s demand; please get in touch with us for more professional suggestions.

9. Q: What’s the most miniature image I can pad print?

A: This will depend on the complexity and detail of the image, but pad printing can produce tiny pictures and fonts. Note that smaller prints do require a higher level of experience and care. Small image printing needs a higher-quality etching plate.

10. Q: Can pad printing be automated?

A: Yes, of course!

We have experience designing many automated systems, including pick and place robotics, feeding systems, conveyors, offload, camera positioning Systems, vibrating plates for small parts, etc. This can also include secondary operations unrelated to the pad printing process. Please don’t hesitate to contact us today to discuss custom automation.

11. Q: Can ENGYPRINT consumables be used on other brand pad printers?

A: yes, definitely; we have produced pad printer consumables since 1998; the basic rule of our consumables production is to ensure they can work with another brand of pad printers.

We have hundreds of types and dimensions, whether an ink cup, ceramic ring, carbide ring, pad, pad mold, or thick/ thin plate.

Please review our pad printer consumables catalogs or contact us for more information.

12. Q: Does climate impact the printing process?

A: The printing process can be significantly impacted by the climate of your printing environment.

The temperature dramatically affects where the plate is stored, along with the coating layer and the pads. If the workshop is always hot, it is suggested that the air conditioner be opened to maintain the inner temperature at less than 25 degrees.

Maintaining a proper climate may be out of your control. In that case, it is necessary to cater to the environment by implementing strategic adjustments within your parameters and ink formulation. For example, a hot or humid may require less solvent in your ink or increase delay times. If it’s cold and dry, you may need to use thinner or a retarder to decrease delay times. Anyway, practice makes perfect, and experience produces knowledge.
